A new and improved tool for educators of online classes is now offered by Wikispace: Wikispace Classroom.
The standard features of Wikispace Classroom is of course still part of this new tool. Among the newest features offered in this online learning space include a News Feed and Formative Assessment tool, both aimed at improving the collaborative experience as well as responding to the needs and expectations of today’s learners.
The News Feed appears on the Wikispace Classroom homepage. The top portion of the homepage includes a handy, personalized itinerary of a student’s upcoming projects and events. The lower portion of this page repeats these reminders in a different date format, and offers the option for students to begin and/or comment on news feeds related to what they are studying. More about this new feature found in Wikispace Classroom can be found at http://blog.wikispaces.com/2013/04/wikispaces-classroom-news-feed.html.
The Formative Assessment tool allows educators to keep track of student progress, participation, and activity within Wikispace Classroom. Individuals as well as teams of students can be monitored, making it clearer about who needs extra help for various tasks.
